Dagmawi Teshale

Dagmawi began his career as an attorney working at a prominent law firm in Irvine, California, where he represented corporate policyholders with securing defense reimbursement for business litigation lawsuits encompassing intellectual property, antitrust, employment, and false advertising claims.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting increase in the number of unhoused families, Dagmawi transitioned to becoming an eviction defense attorney for a non-profit organization in October of 2020. His dedication to protecting families facing eviction has been unwavering, demonstrating his deep-seated commitment to social justice.

In 2022, Dagmawi joined the California Civil Rights Department (CRD) as a Staff Attorney, where he investigated and prosecuted violations of the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the Ralph Civil Rights Act and other civil rights laws that CRD enforces. 

Education and Academic Achievements:

Dagmawi graduated cum laude and received his B.A. in Political Science from California State University, Northridge. Subsequently, Dagmawi obtained his J.D. from the University of California, Irvine School of Law, where he participated in Trial Advocacy and the Community and Economic Development clinic, advocating for migrant farm workers' rights in the Coachella Valley.

Personal Background:

Born and raised in Sweden to Ethiopian parents, Dagmawi's multicultural upbringing shaped his perspective and instilled in him a deep sense of empathy and understanding. His experiences traveling between countries and cultures underscore his commitment to making a positive impact in the world. Dagmawi is fluent in Swedish and Amharic. 

Outside of his legal practice, Dagmawi enjoys exploring new destinations, cooking, and cherishing moments with his wife and daughter.
